Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Howrah station in West Bengal, India, has nabbed a person carrying gold worth crores of rupees. The RPF's Crime Prevention and Detection Squad had been conducting surveillance on Saturday when they noticed a young man acting suspiciously. Upon detaining and questioning him, they found him in possession of approximately 3 kg of gold jewellery, with an estimated value of INR 1,77,45,825.
The person, identified as Abhijeet Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarpur city in the Bihar state, claimed that the gold belonged to his father, a gold trader in Bihar. However, he could not produce any proper documentation to support his claim. Consequently, the RPF arrested him and handed him over to the customs authorities.
This incident is not the first time gold has been recovered from Howrah station. In March last year, RPF officers recovered a large amount of gold from a person walking around with a bag on platform number 8 of the Old Complex of Howrah station. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal transportation and trading of gold and other valuables, which authorities are trying to crack down on.
